P)
Background
Clone mc1 detects amyloid type AA. It may be used for the detection of protein deposits (which are not easily detected by HE staining), and will help distinguishing from amyloid types AL and B2M. The antibody may also be used for screening purposes in kidney and rectal biopsies. Amyloidosis describes a disease during which fibrillary proteins are secreted into the extracellular space of different organs. Histological stainings demonstrate eosinophilic deposits, which progressively displace surrounding parenchymatous tissues, resulting in the loss of organ function and eventually death. Chronic inflammation (type AA-amyloidosis) and plasma cell dyscrasia (type AL-amyloidosis) are the most frequent forms of amyloidosis occurring e.g. in kidney and rectal tissue. In neighbourhood of hemodialysis more frequently cases of amyloidosis of the B2M type have been reported. Human Amyloid Type AA.

Caution
*These antibodies are intended for in vitro research use only. They must not be used for clinical diagnostics and not for in vivo experiments in humans or animals. ** The preservative sodium azide is known to be poisonous and potentially hazardous to health. It should be handled only by trained staff. Despite of the product's low azide concentration it must be handled with care. Dispose according to regional rules!
