Background
The antibody to alpha-fetoprotein may be used for the detection of AFP in fetal liver, primary liver carcinoma, and in metastases thereof. Most germ cell tumours are AFP-positive, too. Human alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is synthesized in the embryonic yolk sac and during adult life in the liver. During childhood and youth only very low concentrations are found in blood, but it is found in high quantities in maternal and fetal blood during pregnancy. Exceptionally high concentrations have been found in different failures of fetal development. Tissue transformation as it occurs in primary hepatocarcinoma is accompanied by increased synthesis of alpha-fetoprotein, so that it can be used as an immunohistochemical marker of this disease. Human Alpha-Fetoprotein (no cross-reactivity with HSA, CEA, Ferritin, HCG, and PSA).

Source

Immunogen: Purified Alpha-Fetoprotein from umbilical cord blood

Product
Antibody solution in stabilizing phosphate buffer pH 7.3. Contains 0.09 % sodium azide**. The volume is sufficient for at least 50 immunohistochemical tests (100 µl working solution / test). Use appropriate antibody diluent e.g. BIOLOGO Art. No. PU002, if further dilution is required.

Purification Method: Antibody solution in stabilizing phosphate buffer pH 7.3. Contains 0.09 % sodium azide**. The volume is sufficient for at least 50 immunohistochemical tests (100 µl working solution / test). Use appropriate antibody diluent e.g. BIOLOGO Art. No. PU002, if further dilution is required.

Secondary Reagents: We recommend the use of BIOLOGO's Universal Staining System DAB (Art. No. DA005) or AEC (Art.-No. AE005).

Species Reactivity: Human

Applications
IHC(C, P)

Incubation Time: 60 min at RT

Working Concentration: (RTU) neat

Pre-Treatment: No protease pre-treatment required, but microwave treatment usually will intensify staining. We refer to BIOLOGO's Unmasking Fluid G (Art. No. DE007).

Positive Control: Fetal liver

Storage
2-8°C

Caution
*These antibodies are intended for in vitro research use only. They must not be used for clinical diagnostics and not for in vivo experiments in humans or animals. ** The preservative sodium azide is known to be poisonous and potentially hazardous to health. It should be handled only by trained staff. Despite of the product's low azide concentration it must be handled with care. Dispose according to regional rules!
