Active Recombinant Sphingosine Kinase Enzymes

Sphingosine 1-Phosphate Kinase 1 & 2 (Sphk1 & 2) catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine to form sphingosine 1-phosphate (SPP), a lipid mediator with both intra- and extracellular functions. Also acts on D-erythro-sphingosine and to a lesser extent sphinganine, but not other lipids, such as D, L-threo-dihydrosphingosine, N,N-dimethylsphingosine, diacylglycerol, ceramide, or phosphatidylinositol. Sphk1 catalyses the following reaction: Sphingosine + ATP = sphingosine 1-phosphate + ADP.

Sphingosine Kinase 1 - Sphk1 is widely expressed with highest levels in adult lung, spleen, brain and heart.

Sphingosine Kinase 2 - Sphk2 is widely expressed with highest levels in adult kidney, liver and brain
